Terms of Service

Last updated: 17 May 2026

1. About the Service

Spelling Bees ("the App") is an online spelling-practice application for children in Years 3–6 (ages 7–11), including those preparing for the 11+ and independent-school entrance exams. The App provides short daily Cover-Copy-Compare practice, spaced- repetition review, a weekly spelling test, progress tracking, and an optional "spell aloud" voice mode. Spelling Bees is part of the Tweenage family of apps.

2. Eligibility & Account Creation

A parent or legal guardian ("Parent") must create and control the account. By creating an account you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and are the parent or legal guardian of the child who will use the App. Children must use the App under parental supervision. Each account is for one family's personal use only.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree to:

  • Use the App for personal, non-commercial, family purposes only
  • Not share your account credentials with anyone outside your household
  • Not copy, reproduce, distribute, or scrape any content from the App
  • Not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or hack the App
  • Not use the App in any way that is unlawful or harmful

4. Payments & Access

Full access requires a one-time payment of £24.99, which covers every child profile in your household. Payment is processed securely by LemonSqueezy. Upon successful payment, full access is granted immediately and does not expire (no subscription, no renewal). A 7-day money-back guarantee applies — see our Refund Policy for details.

5. No Guarantee of Results

The App is an educational tool designed to build spelling accuracy and a consistent practice habit. We do not guarantee any specific exam results, scores, or school placements. Performance in examinations depends on many factors beyond the scope of this App. The App complements — but does not replace — broader learning and revision.

6. Recommended Books & Affiliate Links

The App includes a curated reading list. Some links to books are affiliate links (Amazon Associates and Bookshop.org). If you buy through them we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend books we genuinely believe support vocabulary development, and a commission never changes what we recommend.

7. Intellectual Property

All content in the App — including the curated word lists, definitions, hints, illustrations, code, design, and branding — is owned by Spelling Bees / the Tweenage family of apps and protected by copyright and intellectual property laws. The Department for Education statutory spelling word lists are Crown copyright and used in line with the Open Government Licence. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the App without our written permission.

8. Account Suspension & Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, including but not limited to: sharing account access, scraping content, or using the App for any unlawful purpose. We will notify you by email before taking action, except in cases of serious or immediate breach.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Spelling Bees shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you have paid for the service.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by email. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
